How to Get to Dahab from Europe
The easiest way to reach Dahab from Europe is by flying into Egypt. Most travelers fly into Cairo or directly into Sharm El Sheikh, the closest airport to Dahab. From Sharm El Sheikh, it’s about a one-hour drive by taxi or pre-arranged transfer.
If you arrive in Cairo, you can continue by overnight bus to Dahab, which takes around 10 hours and is the most budget-friendly option. There are also regular buses from Sharm El Sheikh to Dahab that take roughly two hours.
For experienced and adventurous travelers, renting a car from Cairo or Sharm El Sheikh is possible, but not necessary for most itineraries.

Weather Dahab
The best time to visit Dahab is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. Dahab can be visited year-round, but the summer months can be very hot, while winters are mild but can be a bit cooler for water activities.

You can easily purchase a prepaid SIM card straight at the airport or in town. If you want to be connected right away, make sure to purchase an eSIM Card for Egypt.

Day 1: Dahab City, Lagoon, Magic Lake & Bedouin Night
Slowly start your day with a typical Egyptian breakfast at the hotel. I couldn’t help but dive into all the local dishes, especially the hummus, falafel, and aromatic tea.
Visit Dahab Lagoon
Just before it gets too hot, make sure to visit the Dahab Lagoon. The Lagoon is such a picturesque coastal area and a popular spot to watch the sunset and have a lazy beach day. Because of the calm and shallow waters, it makes the ideal place to swim, learn kitesurfing and practice all sorts of watersports!
Magic Lake
Head around the Peninsula and you’ll eventually see it. There is one gorgeous turquoise lake that is not connected to the sea – hence the name: Magic Lake.
Explore Dahab City Center & Village
Head to Dahab’s city center to explore this bohemian village during the day. The best way to explore the city is by leisurely strolling along the beachfront promenade of Dahab, known as the “Lighthouse” area. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, browse through all the local shops, and relax at beachfront cafes.

Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is another stunning coastal area near Dahab and one of the best places you can see! Characterized by its crystal-clear turquoise waters, it’s the perfect spot for swimming, kitesurfing and relaxation.
This is the final stop on most full-day snorkel tours, and where you slow down after the Blue Hole and Abu Galum
It’s one of the places in Dahab that hosts a lot of camps, kite schools and restaurants, making it a great place for people to stay for a few days. Ideal for people looking for a kitesurfing course!
Dahab Nightlife City Tour
Return to your hotel, freshen up, and take a nightlife city tour of Dahab’s vibrant streets with colorful shops, cafes, and restaurants.
Indeed, Dahab is primarily a daytime town, known for its vibrant energy under the sun. However, don’t let that deceive you, as the town remains lively well into the night!
The shops and restaurants defy the norm by staying open past midnight. If you take a stroll towards the lighthouse, you’ll discover a hidden gem – a beachside bar that not only offers music but also serves refreshing beer! I could have stayed in this place all night..
The evening is the perfect time to experience the cheerful atmosphere and indulge in local street food of Dahab.
Day 3: Red Sea Boat Trip & Snorkeling Reefs
Red Sea Boat Tour
Since the Red Sea is Egypt’s prime ocean hotspot, you just have to spend a day out there! If you want to secure a spot on a full-day luxury snorkeling tour in Dahab, it’s best to reserve in advance, especially during peak season.
The boats take you to various spots, leaving enough time to explore the underwater world, sunbathe on deck, and indulge in their Egyptian lunch.
One popular destination is the Gabr el Bint, known for its pristine coral reefs, abundant marine life, and crystal-clear waters. This underwater paradise offers a unique opportunity to explore colorful coral gardens and swim alongside tropical fish and large squid (!).
Just off the coast of the Dahab Lagoon also lies Napoleon Reef – another incredible reef. Snorkelers and divers can encounter colorful fish, sea turtles, and even the occasional sighting of Napoleon fish. I’ve spent about 45 minutes snorkeling around the entire reef, mesmerized by its red-fluffy, pink, purple and yellow corals.
Back in Dahab by late afternoon, head to the beachfront for your final evening. Find a relaxed seaside café, watch the sun dip behind the mountains, and toast the end of four days filled with desert landscapes, coral reefs, and slow coastal living.
This is the kind of trip that doesn’t feel rushed, yet shows you just how special Dahab really is.

The official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). ATMs are widely available in Egypt, and you can use your card to withdraw cash in Egyptian pounds. As for all my trips, I’d suggest signing up for a prepaid Wise card to withdraw money abroad and save of additional costs.
