This authentic 16th-century fortress offers panoramic views of the city and the Gulf of Oman. This stop works especially well at sunset, when the harbor views make the climb worthwhile!
If you are short on time, prioritize the first two stops and treat the last as optional.
Al Alam Palace
Nearby, you’ll find the majestic Al Alam Palace, the ceremonial residence of the Sultan of Oman. While visitors are unable to enter the palace grounds, its vibrant facade makes a stop worth it. Expect adornments with intricate designs and lush gardens!
The palace is surrounded by the Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts. Both stand as impressive symbols of Oman’s historical fortifications and offer panoramic views of the surrounding area.
Day 2: Culture and Waterfront, Mutrah and the Corniche

One of the highlights of the Muscat Corniche is the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Sultan’s Yacht. It is a majestic vessel used by the Sultan of Oman for official functions and ceremonies, as well as leisure activities. While it’s not possible to visit, you have the best, from the waterfront promenade and from Muthra Fort.
Bait Al Zubair Museum
